Description

The Duplex Fixed Control Handle has been designed specifically for the Gunner’s station in the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (MBT) and provides a two-handed Human Machine Interface (HMI) to the vehicle’s gunnery system via various high integrity single or multiway switches.

Turret control of the MBT is achieved using the variable output from the force transducer, mounted in the right-hand thumb position of the Hand Controller. An internal PCB assembly provides law shaping and amplification of the transducer signal to allow both fine control and rapid (emergency) movement of the Turret.

The Hand Controller is constructed from a high strength, aluminium alloy casting manufactured using the precision sand casting process. Access to switches for repair and/or replacement can be achieved by removal of the rear-fitting baseplate from the Handle casting.
